Dove’s new commercial about beauty a hit or miss?
Is Dove’s latest commercial a hit or miss regarding women and their beauty? Dove is traditionally known for releasing commercials that show beautiful women happy and satisfied using their products, but in their latest it takes on a somber approach. Hiring a criminal sketch artist, Dove have women describe their faces to him based on the questions he asks. He doesn’t see the women and when they are done they walk out never meeting. The women are also asked to talk to a specific woman and later describe her to the sketch artist. At the end of the video, we see comparison images which is very eye opening.
Based off their descriptions, the sketch artist drew each woman older, tireder, or fatter than what she really is. However, when people see them, they see someone who is lively and beautiful. So whats the message behind Dove’s latest commercial? It could be that we are all beautiful and although we are unhappy with certain features, it is not noticeable or as bad as it seems. Or it could be we are only beautiful if we use their products; they are looking to sell more products right?
